Captain America Vol II
|
|
Forget everything you
know about Captain America. In response to flagging sales, Marvel turned
toward its own former artists, who had left to form Image Comics. The
Image crew was given free rein to reinvent (and hopefully, reinvigorate)
many of Marvel’s core characters including Captain America, The
Fantastic Four, The Avengers, and Iron Man. Rob Liefeld and Jeph Loeb spun
a new origin story for Captain America.

In this version, Cap had
been a hero of World War II, but had dared to speak out against the atomic
bombing of Hiroshima. Fearing the influence such an outspoken icon would
have, the president ordered a young Nick Fury to put Cap on ice, removing
his memory using techniques discovered from the Nazis. Over the next few
decades, Steve Rogers lived as an ordinary person until wartime comrades
revealed his true legacy to him |
