Marvel Comics Presents is a bit like the
old adventure reels in Saturday afternoon cinema. It takes four different
storylines and presents them as serials, with a new issue every two weeks.
This lets Marvel experiment with a number of new story ideas while staying
reasonably sure that if one doesn’t appeal to the readers, the other
three will. In most issues, at least one of the stories has featured the
X-Men’s Wolverine. The other stories have covered diverse characters
from Ghost Rider to Nth Man. However, many people will remember the series
for the 12-part story entitled “Weapon X.” This series by Barry
Windsor-Smith served as a sort of origin for Wolverine, telling the story
of the grisly experiment which laced his bones with adamantium, and of the
brutal methods by which the experimenters tried to turn him into a human
killing machine. |
