Supergirl
Supergirl's
current chief scribe is none other than Peter
David, noted "writer
of stuff" (Young Justice, Captain Marvel, Spyboy, Incredible Hulk,
Aquaman, The Haunted, Soulsearchers and Company, various Star Trek and
Babylon 5 novels, original novels such as Knight Life and Sir Apropos of
Nothing, and much more). He brings a sensitivity to the character of
Supergirl that we haven't seen in ages, plus a lot of surprising elements
that we haven't EVER seen before in her books.

The first
issue of today's Supergirl series begins with the shocking scene of a hurt
and bleeding young woman crying in a shower stall. How did she get like
this? Who did this to her? Soon we hear her more important question:
who am I?
Later, in
a flashback, we find out: during a satanic ritual that was being held in
the small town of Leesburg, Matrix had stopped the entrance of a demon,
only to come upon the burning body of Linda Danvers, dying from knife
wounds inflicted upon her by Buzz, a mysterious and charismatic agent of
Chaos, who had pretended to be Linda's friend. Looking into Linda's eyes,
Matrix realized that there would be no second chance for Linda, unless the
ultimate sacrifice was made. So Matrix merged her artificial lifeform with
Linda, and the two became one. For her part, Matrix receives the gift of a
human soul. And Linda Danvers is finally given the power to right the
wrongs that she has seen so far throughout her life. Linda can also repair
and atone for the mistakes she made before, because NOW, she is SUPERGIRL! |
