In DC ONE MILLION, we learned that the Superman
of today will still be alive in the 853rdcentury. In NEW YEAR'S EVIL: GOG,
today's Superman was slain at the hands of an obsessed villain named Gog
in the 21st century. But in the DC Universe, there are no parallel
futures.
Clearly, something doesn't fit, and it's this seeming contradiction
that serves as the starting point as Gog, fresh form killing Superman for
the first time, decides that slaying the Man of Steel once is not enough,
and begins traveling back in time, killing Superman earlier and earlier in
an increasingly fractured timeline.
When Gog comes to kill Superman on the day of the birth of his and
Wonder Woman's son, Hunter, of the Linear Men, goes rouge and stops the
killing in order to save the time-line. What occurs instead is Gog kidnaps
the newborn baby and vanishes back to an earlier point in time to create
the Kansas disaster in 1998. Knowing the fate of this time-line if Gog
succeeds or if he is defeated still spells the death of this time-line he
summons Batman, Wonder Woman, and Superman to travel back with him in
order to team with their present day counter-parts in order to save all of
time. As rumors of the impending deaths of all those in the 21st century
spreads among the heroes and villains of the future, a band of super-hero
protégées team up in order to travel back to the past to lend a hand
with the impending battle.
The young heroes appear in the middle of Booster Gold's restaurant,
Planet Krypton, which holds the secrets of how to stop Gog. As all the
players in the battle are reviled the battle ground is the Planet Krypton
restaurant. The weapons of victory are fictional relics from non-existent
realities. In the end the heroes defeated Gog but his defeated breaks the
barriers that house all of time. And in an unimaginable moment of
revelation Hunter's will has been fulfilled. Welcome to Hypertime, the DC
Universe will never be the same again.
